Jet Engine Basics for Future Airline Pilots: Understanding N1, N2, ITT, Bleed Air, and Engine Starts

A jet engine works through a simple continuous cycle: suck, squeeze, burn, spin. The fan pulls a huge volume of air into the engine. The compressor squeezes that air to raise its pressure before combustion. Fuel is then added, atomized, and ignited in the combustion chamber. The hot expanding gases spin the turbine, which drives the compressor and fan, keeping the cycle alive.
